Ormil

Ormil, a High Elf publican, is the innkeeper of The Bloated Float Inn, in the Waterfront District of the Imperial City. Although he is somewhat wealthier than most other Waterfront residents, getting caught pickpocketing or killing him for his gold will result in you being cast out of the Thieves Guild.

He spends all his days offering his services — bed and board — behind the counter of the inn, only stopping to eat from 6am to 8am.

Ormil wears a middle-class outfit consisting of a burgundy linen shirt and burgundy linens, with an upper-class pair of green velvet shoes. He carries the key to his cabin, as well as a small amount of gold.

Dialogue[edit]

Ormil is obviously proud of his vessel-turned-inn, as shown by how he greets you with:

"What can I do for you?"
"Well met. Welcome to the Bloated Float. She's the finest inn on the water in all Cyrodiil."
Bed
"There's a room, all right. And a fine room it is -- yours for the night for only 10 gold!"
I'll take it.
"A wise choice, indeed. You've never had a night's rest like this, I assure you. The room is down below deck. It's the door on the left."

However if you do not sufficient funds he will snort:

I'll take it.
"I don't care much for jokes. If you're serious about the room, come back with some gold on you."

If you ask again, he will remind you:

Bed
"You've already got the room. It's down below deck."

Related Quests[edit]

Quest-Related Events[edit]

Sleeping in the Float's bed begins the quest An Unexpected Voyage. After you wake up to find the ship afloat and out to sea, you'll quickly find that some pirates have taken over the ship and that you must fight your way past them to be able to return to the Imperial City. At this point, Ormil will be locked into his cabin by the leader of the gang, Selene. After rescuing bouncer Graman gro-Marad, he will say:

"I don't know exactly what's going on, but not long ago, a gang of thieves calling themselves The Blackwater Brigands stormed the ship. They took myself and Ormil, the Float's owner, hostage and put the ship to sea. I have no idea what they're after. If you can get me safely to the top deck, I can steer the Float home. But I'm not budging until the coast is clear."

After you've dispatched Wrath, Graman will take up his spot by the wheel but still refuse to pilot the ship back to port until his boss is rescued:

"This ship doesn't move 'til I know that Ormil's safe."
"Like I said, I'm not moving the Float until Ormil is safe."

You'll find Ormil standing around in his locked cabin, guarded by Selene, who will confront you when you enter. You now have a choice to either kill or her or try to convince her to surrender.

In the former case, Ormil will join the fight, pummeling the pirate with his fists. Once she lies dead, he will say:

"Oh thank goodness! That horrid woman kept threatening me! She said if I didn't come up with the loot she'd throw me to the slaughterfish."
Selene
"It's a pity she wouldn't surrender. Such a waste of a young life."

He will now part ways by saying:

"Good riddance."

If however you managed to get her to lay down her arms, he will ask you to lock her up:

"Thank goodness you arrived when you did! I feared that I'd be thrown to the slaughterfish."
Blackwater Brigands
"If you get Selene safely locked up, I can tell you all I know. I won't feel safe until you do that."
Selene
"Now that she's surrendered, please escort her to the last room on the inn deck. We'll lock her in there until we arrive at port."

When leaving conversation, he will spit:

"Please... get her from my sight."

Speaking to him again before you've followed his orders won't get you anywhere:

"I don't wish to get underway until Selene is safely locked in a room on the inn deck."
Selene
"Please. Get her below like I asked so we can get underway."

Once you've placed the pirate into the private room below deck, he will draw a sigh of relief:

"Now that Selene is locked up safely below, I think we can all breathe a little easier. I can't thank you enough."
Selene
"I feel much better now knowing she's locked up."

Leaving conversation now will have Ormil boast:

"She's lucky I didn't have her tossed overboard."

Regardless of which path you took, he will make a confession when asked about the pirates:

Blackwater Brigands
"Well, I'm afraid all of this was my fault. They hijacked the Bloated Float because of me. Business has been waning of late, so I invented a story. I fashioned a tale about a 'Golden Galleon' that the previous owner hid within this very vessel. It was to be a statuette made completely of gold. At the time, the idea was quite clever, I thought. I figured the lore would draw more curiosity seekers and adventurers looking for the treasure. What could the harm be if while they were here, they bought a drink or two? My business has increased quite a bit since I leaked the story. Well, obviously, I was mistaken. It was a terrible idea. I'm just glad that no innocents were hurt; I wouldn't want to have their blood on my hands. Anyway, sorry to ramble. You better get below now and rest until we arrive safely at the Imperial City docks."

At this point Graman will tell you:

"I'm sure Ormil can help you now. I'm busy trying to get us home."
"Thanks again for helping us. I'm sure Ormil will reward you appropriately."

Speak to Ormil and he will first tell you to get some sleep. He will also comment on Selene's fate, whatever it was:

"I suggest you rest in your room until we arrive back at the Imperial City. Graman should have us underway soon."
Blackwater Brigands
"I'm glad that you were on board to help rid me of them. If you hadn't been here... I don't even want to think about it..."
Selene
"Selene no longer holds the Bloated Float. Once we get to the Imperial City, I intend to make sure she is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
"I'll turn over her body and the bodies of her compatriots when we arrive at the Imperial City. Don't let it trouble you, friend."

He will part ways with:

"Please... go get some rest."

You must now sleep once more in your room's bed, and will wake up with the ship docked in the Waterfront again. Speaking to Ormil will have him update you on the latest, pay you a level-dependent sum of gold and make one last comment on Selene's fate, whatever it was:

"You're awake.... good. I didn't want to disturb you. I suppose you're wondering what I did with Selene? The authorities at the Imperial City took her off the ship as soon as we docked. I was also informed that there was a reward for her capture. Here you go. Don't spend it all in one place... unless it's here of course!"
Selene
"She was a ruthless woman, and I'm glad she's behind bars where she belongs."
"She was a ruthless woman, and I'm glad she's gone. Such a waste..."

Once the whole ordeal is over, he will warmly say:

"What can I get for you, my good friend?"
The Bloated Float
"Yes, the Float is quite a vessel, don't you think? The only functioning tavern and inn on the water in all of Cyrodiil. Bought it maybe ten years ago when it was decommissioned. Had to gut the whole thing to make room, but kept it seaworthy. All the furnishings were built inside the ship since they were too big to be carried on board. Spared no expense."

He will then part ways by warmly telling you:

"Farewell, my friend."

At this point, Waterfront residents will tell you:

"Someone said the Bloated Float mysteriously departed from the docks and then returned. I didn't know she was even seaworthy!"

Rumors[edit]

Denizens of the Imperial City can be hear commenting on Ormil's establishment when asked about the city, often pointing out its low cost but bad neighborhood:

Ernest Manis: "There's the Bloated Float at the Waterfront. Sleep on a boat. And cheap, too."
Pista Marillin: "I can't recommend the Bloated Float on the Waterfront. The Waterfront is not a very desirable location."
Willet: "The Bloated Float on the Waterfront is cheap... and a bit too interesting for my tastes."

If asking watchmen for a place to sleep, they will also agree:

"There's also the Bloated Float on the Waterfront, but that's not a very nice neighborhood."

Graman himself will remark on the Float's selling points:

"The Bloated Float rents beds. Only place on the waterfront. Cheap. And it's safe."

Unused Dialogue[edit]

  • Ormil has a large number of "Hello" lines which you will never hear as they are overridden by his AI packages during the related quest:
"Please help me."
"I'm in your debt."
"Remove the prisoner."
"Selene'll get what's coming to her when we arrive home."
"I abhor killing, but you did the right thing."
"What a fool I was."
"Land ho!"
  • Similarly, Ormil has two "Goodbye" lines which are impossible to hear as they are always overridden by others:
"Don't leave me!"
"Good to be home."
  • Two of his greeting lines suffer from the same fate:
"I... can't speak to you... talk to her..."
"I honestly don't know how to repay you. I'm not a wealthy man by any means, but perhaps I could assist you in other ways."

Bugs[edit]

  • Like Sinderion and Hamlof Red-Tooth, Ormil lacks a merchant chest and thus he keeps his inventory on his person. Due to this, the items that he keeps is his inventory will never respawn. Furthermore, if he is sold apparel or weapons of better quality than those in his current possession, he will later equip them, as they reside in his inventory.
