Notable Loot

Hi Jeancy! I am an editor over at Nukapedia (Fandom) and hold the position of content moderator there. I haven't been active on this site for quite some time, but have recently gotten very much re-interested in Elder Scrolls. One of the things I wanted to kick around with you is a Notable Loot section for all locations in the Elder scrolls games, particularly Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and ESO. We have such a section over at the Fallout wiki and it is extremely useful to our users, particularly the ones who have played the game and know the ins and outs, but don't want to spend a large amount of time reading a whole article in order to find that one Nuka-Cola Quantum that they forgot exactly where it was located. I think a section like this would be of great benefit and I would be glad to undertake such a project.

The new section would not be anything large, and would only contain notable fixed item loot (unique, rare, and/or massive amounts of common items gathered in one place) within a given location and/or the immediate exterior area surrounding it. What it would not describe are chests with random loot, non-unique fixed items (Imperial Bow of Frost), or level dependent loot...that would be where the detailed sections of the articles come in.

The question is, How would I go about starting this? Would I have to get permission? Would it have to pass a community vote? Or is it something I can just do as long as it's within policy guidelines? Thanks in advance, and I'm open to any questions, comments or observations you might have. Yowboy (talk) 20:31, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

We actually do have this, if people fill it out :). This can be seen as "Important Treasure" in the infobox for locations like Cradle Stone Tower or Largashbur for Skyrim and Bloodcrust Cavern for Oblivion. Morrowind never seemed to utilize this parameter for the infobox, but there's no reason you couldn't edit articles to include it. As for ESO, there aren't really ever set items to be found at locations that aren't from boss drops. For bosses, we do have a drops section for the infobox which lists unique loot they drop (such as Odilon). For random set drops that can drop from any NPC in the zone, those already have sections on the delve pages (such as Fungal Grotto II).
Is that the sort of thing you are thinking of? Jeancey (talk) 20:39, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
Very similar, thanks! To be honest, I'm so used to seeing the page layout over at Fandom that I totally missed the info box on the right! Now that I see it, I think it's a better layout than having a whole section dedicated to it. I feel like smacking myself for missing the obvious! Yowboy (talk) 16:00, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
No worries! There are always differences between processes on different wikis. Asking a question is never a bad thing! Jeancey (talk) 16:11, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Jel article

Hello, Jeancey. Recently I did some contribution into the Lore:Jel article. And I understand your concern about it. Frankly speaking the article asks of being well structured. On top of that pervious variant of Jel vocabulary was more chaotic and even less structured. However answering on your concerns I should state that it was not only me that tried to restore original meanings of the words on the basis of known ones. Anyway, I believe we should harmonize our approach to the article but I would wnat some constructive criticism or suggestions aside from simple content removal.

For example if you really want all those suggested word meanings to be deleted I'd suggest to organize them in a separate article instead. Where there will be clearly stated that all the work is a suggestion zone and a work of a community. I would also suggest to involve another two significant contributors User:MolagBallet User:Talyyn in this discussion. Thank you for being reasonable in advance.Listens-to-Air (talk) 04:16, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

The main issue is that Original Research is typically prohibited in lore. Simply taking a two syllable word that has a two word meaning and assigning the first syllable to the first word and the second syllable to the second word is Original Research, and whether it is on that page, or on another page, we just shouldn't be doing it. We've had issues in the past where something that wasn't entirely accurate appeared on the wiki, and then it later gets added to a game because a developer saw it here and thought it was established fact. This is the situation I want to avoid. My preferred option would be to move all the uncertain translations to the talk page, so that the work isn't lost, and if new translations are found in future updates, they can be added to the page at that point. Protection of Arena:Services

Why did you locked the article on the vandalized version? (https://en.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Arena:Services&diff=2195240&oldid=1912949) KShrimp (talk) 21:10, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

First off, it's not vandalized. The two other people involved are patrollers, and there are questions as to the accuracy of the statement. Whomever is right doesn't particularly matter, in that it isn't vandalism, there is a reason for them removing it, same as a reason for you adding it.
Second, per policy, I locked the page after the 3RR (three revert rule) was broken, as it had turned into edit warring. I thought it best to remove the offending line and discuss on the talk page of the article. At that point, once a consensus is established, we can add it back or keep it removed, depending on the result. Also, the page in these instances is typically set at what it was before the three reverts, which is where it is now. Jeancey (talk) 21:20, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Removing the text without any comment is not "question of the accuracy of the statement", it is vandalism. If they had any questions, they could ask a question on the talk page. Why do you take the side of people not contributing to the Arena namespace over mine? I like to see the motivation of your choice. KShrimp (talk) 21:32, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
In any edit war, there's always going to be one side that thinks you've locked the page on the wrong version. In this case, with 10 days between the removal and the reversion, it really could've gone either way. But the point of protecting a page isn't to take sides in an edit war, it's to stop the edit war in its tracks. That's literally the only point.
The lack of edit summary is regrettable, but people make mistakes at times. There has since been both an edit summary and there's now a talk page post as well. I'd appreciate your input so that we can figure this out one way or the other. Robin Hood(talk) 22:32, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Predator Mesa image

hey jeancey. i was going to add an image for Predator Mesa and noticed there had been one, but you deleted it. just wanted to see if we didn't want an image or if you're ok with me adding a new one. --Ray75228 (talk) 00:30, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Not the one you asked, but I did take a quick look at the logs and it seems it was deleted as it was just a duplicate image of the loading screen (e.g. File:ON-load-Predator Mesa.jpg). There is no problem with uploading a new one from in-game. --Ilaro (talk) 01:44, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Ilaro and no prob. that's what i suspected but i couldn't follow the rabbit trail. i'll upload an in game screen shot.--Ray75228 (talk) 16:47, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

National User Box

Hello!

Could you help me to create a new national user box for Croat/Croatia.

Shrine of Peryte

Why did you undo my changes of article?! — Unsigned comment by NONIMAN (talkcontribs) at 17:35 on 19 April 2021

Articles are important parts of the English language. They should be present. There's no reason to remove them and doing so would be incorrect. Jeancey (talk) 17:39, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
What are you talking about?! Who removed any article?NONIMAN (talk) 12:03, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
You removed instances of the words "a", "an", "the". These are called articles. Your changes were grammatically incorrect and should not be made elsewhere. —Legoless (talk) 16:35, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Re: Set Templates

You solve the entire thing as I type one message that ends up out of date by the end of it all, lmao. I know it comes in handy for the "|dlc" parameter as it signals on the page that it's DLC, yeah, Tel Var, and then also crafted alliance-zone equipment. You only reverted the three, yeah? Oath2order (talk) 21:00, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Finished removing all the extraneous links! :) Oath2order (talk) 14:47, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Morrowind:Brandy for the Fundraising Dinner disposition

Hello! Maybe I worded that note poorly under mwop-npc template. The disposition check is about notes section in that article, not reward. I also wrote about my findings in talk page of article. Thanks! --Yagutzal (talk) 18:09, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Ah! That makes more sense. Feel free to revert me! :) Jeancey (talk) 18:17, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Couple questions, if you don't mind

Hello again! I have couple questions. (Or should I ask these from mentors?)

-Are there any pre-set/confimed templates for articles? What I mean, that any changes I make would follow same structure along the rest of namespace in question, to reduce amount of structucal changes.
-For some reason, linking between mwmap and actual article doesn't work, and I can't find reason why. Article I mean is Lighthouse. Map opens just fine, but there is no linking from map :to article. Thanks! --Yagutzal (talk) 08:24, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Asking me is fine :) Generally, if you look at enough pages, you'll understand what the general "template" for a page is. There is the Style Guide but it is probably out of date at this point, and each namespace differs slightly just based on usage. Other than just looking at a bunch of pages in each namespace, if you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll try to answer.
In terms of Lighthouse, I fixed that :) Jeancey (talk) 17:55, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Edits to TR dungeons and quest

Hi Jeancey,

Just a note to say thank you for looking through what must be a metric ton of TR articles. I'm making a note (or trying to) incorporate the style issues you've highlighted..

You've added a comment about https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Tamriel_Rebuilt:Vathras_Plantation to the effect of that every NPC listed will need a page. Is that one page per NPC? I'd hoped the NPC stats were imported from a single page somewhere, but it looks like have the wrong end of the stick. I'll avoid adding NPC tables until they can be properly populated, anyway - less messy that way! Presto (talk) 20:27, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Technically, yes, they will all get one page per NPC. However, given the lack of generic NPCs in Morrowind, and the large number of essentially filler NPCs, there's a template we can use called {{Non-Relevant NPC}} which essentially turns the page into a redirect that ONLY has the stats/data for the NPC and doesn't need an image or text really. You can see an example of this working here: Adanji. While the Page exists, it doesn't really have anything more than the stats, and then when you use {{NPC Data}} on the place page, the stats get imported (here for Adanji). Full NPC pages would only be required for NPCs that are involved in quests, or are otherwise important (the "end boss" of a dungeon, for example). Also, keep up the good work filling out the Tamriel Rebuilt namespace!! Jeancey (talk) 20:39, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
Thank you - that looks much more manageable than I'd hoped, so I will give it a shot! Presto (talk) 21:24, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Re: Health changes

Someone should modify this page to actually mention that health values don't get commas. The entire thing I was doing was based off this line:

"For statistics and tables, however, it is proper for the numbers to always be in numerical form. When written in numerical form, numbers with four digits before the decimal point (if any) may or may not use a comma—as in 1234 or 1,234—but should be consistent within an article, making as few edits as possible in order to do so."

I'd also request that the trial and group dungeon monsters keep the commas, because those are such large numbers it makes it easier to read.

No trouble at all, I get to move on to other work! Oath2order (talk) 18:32, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

I'm not opposed really to the idea that the commas make it easier to read, but we should definitely take that up on the talk page for the Health template (since the health template would be what's updated). And yeah, many of our style guidelines are pretty outdated, and from a time when health values of NPCs didn't get nearly so high, so generally the comma was about gold values or things of that nature, so those probably need to be updated as well! I apologize for reaching out only after you'd done so much work! Jeancey (talk) 18:38, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
The Health template (Template:ESO Health right?) was never used on the the Trial pages (and I'm reasonably certain it was never done on the Group dungeons). The Public Dungeons and Delves, yeah, that's not exactly something I care about necessarily, but where would I discuss that about 4-Man Dungeons and Trials? Oath2order (talk) 18:42, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
In terms of adding new health values to the template, it would be on that template's page (if it's consistent and you feel comfortable, you can add the values yourself to the template in order to start using them). I don't run trials or dungeons, so I can't speak to the NPC values of those NPCs, but it's possible they aren't consistent, and the template is intended to help manage the possibility that the "default" health values for various NPC groups changes at some point in the future, so if health varies between bosses, then it wouldn't need to be used on those pages. Jeancey (talk) 18:45, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
In trials for the bosses, they are absolutely not consistent. Oath2order (talk) 18:47, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, in that case we wouldn't use the health template for that, it would just be listed manually. Jeancey (talk) 18:48, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Trying to create an account

Hi, I can't seem to be able to create an account in the system. - No e-mail of account creation received (Checked Not in junk mail) - I've tried to login, that didn't work - I've tried to pass through a password reset, it indicates that the user name does not exist.

I've been playing several mods in Skyrim and Morrowind lately I'd like to create a user account to do add information in 'Tamriel Rebuilt' entries. Thanks — Unsigned comment by 38.74.43.102 (talk) at 21:06 on 8 May 2022‎

Hi there. This sort of thing happens every once in a while. I can create an account for you, but in order to do that, I'll need an e-mail address and the name you'd like to use. If you'd rather not post that publicly, you can reach me on Discord (RobinHood70#3385) or by e-mail. Robin Hood(talk) 01:25, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Ebony

Where did you get the ID and image from? The image I assume could be found in-game but the ID, I have no idea how to find. I'd love to know so that when I do the other split-ups, I won't have to have someone do that after me. Oath2order (talk) 20:47, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

They can be found in ESOLog, assuming the book has been seen by someone in game: esolog.uesp.net :) The ID specifically is the "bookID" not the overall log ID. Jeancey (talk) 20:49, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Card Images for Druid King

Hi Jeancy. I noticed you've done most of the Tribute card media uploads. I'm wondering if you're still interested in this area? The Druid King deck became available a while ago... I see the achievement Online:Kasorayn,_My_Ally in esolog, but I don't see any of the card data that would have come along with it. Unfortunately, I'm a console player so can't install the uespLog addon. I'm wondering if you're planning on revisiting this area. Paleking (talk) 18:40, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

The card images should now be uploaded! Category:Online-Tribute Images-Druid King Jeancey (talk) 18:59, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

Hover

Hello. This is regarding revision 2703536 on Nund, which you reverted with 2703540.

It was my understanding that we were moving away from hovertext, based on a message from Legoless on my talk page. I've already removed a lot of them from locked chests and locked doors whenever I encounter them; thus, I would hate to have to undo all of those revisions.

With regards to Nund, as well as other similar places, I also remove the hovertexts on skill trainers for two additional reasons:

  • On PC, the title / tooltip of the <a> element takes precedence over that of the <span> (ie. the link to the skill being trained overwrites the skill level that would have been visible on hover). Tested on Chrome and Firefox.
  • Also, I don't think a page about a place is the right spot for overly detailed info pertaining to its NPCs. If training info really needs to be shown on a place's page, it would be more appropriate to have it on the Notes column of the People section / table.

Could you please help clarify what the stance is regarding the use of hovertexts? Salamangkero (talk) 19:01, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

Basically, if they are removed, they should be added to prose. So a "locked chest" would become "a level 10 locked chest". But if they are simply removed entirely, then information is lost from PC with no gain to mobile. If there is already the information for mobile elsewhere on the page, then it's just bonus info with the hover, so there isn't a reason to remove it. Hopefully that makes sense? Jeancey (talk) 19:22, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
  • For locked items, I understood about converting hovertext to prose. I'll be working on this.
  • For NPC trainers, the info is not "lost"; it is available in the NPC's page, where it belongs (ie. not the place's page).
I'm not certain I got what you meant with bonus info... but if the info is already available elsewhere on the page, I don't think it's a good idea to duplicate it (via hovertext or otherwise); see the section on the style guide about redundancy. Salamangkero (talk) 01:00, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Dragon Check

Hello! I did some dialogue expansion for Skyrim:Alduin, including translation hovers. I'm confident in them being pretty accurate, but if a Draconic Translator looked them over I'd be more at ease. You're the only active one, at least as far as those with the userbox goes, so here I am! Obviously, you're a busy man, so there is no rush at all. Thanks a lot! Sweetwater Cascades loading screen

Hi! I was looking through the house pages and noticed that Sweetwater Cascades doesn't have a loading screen pic, although the house was released quite a while ago. I see you uploaded a lot of these, so can you add it as well, please, if that's not a trouble? I would have done it myself, but unfortunately I don't know where to get a high res version. Vicquemare (talk) 21:09, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Uploaded. Thanks for pointing that out! Let me know if you notice any others that are missing! Jeancey (talk) 21:59, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, that was quick! Yes, I took another look and there are actually a few: Linchal Grand Manor, Hakkvild's High Hall and also Exorcised Coven Cottage. At first I thought there were more, but turnes out some pictures just aren't named accordingly, so I went and added them into appropriate articles. Vicquemare (talk) 23:18, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
Those have been uploaded as well! Jeancey (talk) 23:57, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your work.

Errors I made

Thanks for noticing and fixing the errors I made on those style pages. No clue how some of those happened. Just for my clarification, the overall style pages like this should *not* have the description/lorename field? Oath2order (talk) 01:43, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Craglorn Notes

Just to follow up my edit summary, there are several more notes that mention delve locations in Craglorn that I also checked but can't verify if these also fail to mark them on the map as I had already discovered some of the locations already, but my guess is that it would affect them all. All of the notes I originally added were for locations I hadn't discovered yet and weren't marked after reading the notes. --Drakonian (talk) 20:14, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Yeah, I reverted mainly so we could check stuff like.... is it a temporary issue? Just with your account for some reasons? Did they remove it completely? They 100% used to provide the map marker when I created the pages initially, but it's possible things could have changed in recent years (though that seems like a weird choice for them to make). I don't disbelieve you, I promise, just trying to rule out some things. If it does turn out they removed the map marker component for these notes, we would just remove the marker from the template, we wouldn't need the extra note. Jeancey (talk) 21:23, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Fair, in that case feel free to handle my edits how you think is best though ultimately I think keeping this as a bullet point note/bug wouldn't be totally useless as I personally came to the wiki and looked up the notes at first after reading them in-game when I saw they weren't giving me the marker and was confused, considering all of these delve-notes until this point did. --Drakonian (talk) 21:40, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, that's why I think it's gonna end up being a bug rather than an intended change. We'll see. Jeancey (talk) 21:41, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
