Map links[edit]
As someone who tries to complete Eidetic Memory on my main, I've gotta say, the map links on book pages is very appreciated, thank you so much for that! How exactly do you *do* that? Oath2order (talk) 20:06, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Oath! Thanks! Happy to do it. Whenever I come across a book, I pause to check the UESP ESO map of that area to (1) make sure it's pinned to the map (with all the correct formatting and data), (2) copy the Internal ID from that pin, (3) verify the hyperlink to the book's web page works (and correct it if it's incorrect), and (4) use that Internal ID to paste it into a map link on that book's web page. The format of the map link is { {Map Link|12345} } (without the spaces between the pairs of brackets). Solomon1972

- You have to have editing privileges for the ESO maps. Best course there is to get on the UESP Discord, to the "wiki editing help" channel, and ask for someone to grant you permissions to edit. (They respond within the day, usually.) I have a question for you: How did you add your User and User Talk info here in this page? It seems like an automatic timestamp. Is it? Or do you have to manually enter all that info? (I only know how to manually enter my User info, but I'd like to have an auto-stamp, if possible.) Solomon1972

- It's four of this symbol in a row: ~. So do ~~~~, obviously without the nowiki tags. 😛 Oath2order (talk) 04:46, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Awesome. Trying it now. Solomon1972 (talk) 04:47, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- It worked! Thanks!
Re: "ON:" vs "Online:"[edit]
Oh dear, I certainly hope that's not the case, because if so, oops. I'm not sure what you mean by it being used for images. Do you mean like the image name? Oath2order (talk) 04:48, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, ON: is a shortcut used for brevity and is not specific to images. No need to make such changes when you see it used in links. —Legoless (talk) 18:53, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Book Locations[edit]
Hello! Just a note: Standard practice is to not include the zone unless there are multiple locations in multiple zones where to find the book. The thinking is, if they don't know the zone, they certainly don't know where the specific location is, and they can click the link to find the location (either the page link or the map link) and thus learn the zone. Infoboxes try to include just enough information without any extraneous info because of formatting concerns across multiple devices. While on a monitor it might look fine, every extra line could cause issues on smaller phones/tablets. Jeancey (talk) 18:33, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Okay thanks. Where is this standard written down, so I could have known before I changed about a hundred such pages? Solomon1972 (talk) 18:53, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, like much of the wiki standards, it became standard through use rather than through a written policy. Just some of the things you learn over time here. It really only applies to ESO, and most of the written policies are from the single player games. We had to sorta develop new standards on the fly. It's not a MAJOR issue, so the books can be changed over time as they are noticed, but I did want to mention it before you made anymore changes (the map links are very very very helpful :) ) Jeancey (talk) 19:04, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, okay. Thanks for letting me know. I've started putting the zone name on the same line, so it doesn't cause another line break; and I only use the line break version when there's multiple subordinate entries. Solomon1972 (talk) 17:54, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
- I mean, based on standard practice, there shouldn't be a zone at all unless the book is found in multiple zones. What I meant by "They can be changed over time" is that the ones where you already put zones can have the zones removed over time as we find them. This will likely continue to happen, as it adheres to the current practice of the wiki. Jeancey (talk) 18:32, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hmmm. Well, then I'd say we should have zero entries that say "various bookshelves in Southern Elsweyr," and similar (unless that's the ONLY entry for a particular book because no one has found it placed on the map anywhere), since that type of entry is not helping anyone find the books. I've left them in place because I wasn't sure and didn't want to mess with them, but it seems they're just clogging up that space for no real benefit. (I mean, it's not like anyone is running around clicking on every bookshelf in a zone until the find a specific book because they saw it on UESP and thought to themselves "Oh! I can just go run around Southern Elsweyr reading every bookshelf until I find it!" No, they just click on every bookshelf anyway, regardless of the extra entry on UESP, because they enjoy it and want to find as many books as possible, or read the lore, etc.) Solomon1972 (talk) 19:05, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
- I found the standards, and edited them to include a specific reference to this. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/UESPWiki:Style_Guide/Book_Layout#Books_in_Multi-Zone_Games Solomon1972 (talk) 03:58, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Planar Armor Scraps[edit]
Are you sure you got Planar Armor Scraps fragments from Zeal of Zenithar and not a Planar Key? —Legoless (talk) 19:51, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- I received the key, yes. The note says the keys were replaced by fragments. I'll try to update the language to be more clear. Solomon1972 (talk) 19:54, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
Images[edit]
Hi Solomon1872, I can see you have started uploading images. Can you please take a look at Help:Images, it contains the image standards. For example ON-npc-Lanovic Giroux.jpg, as an NPC image it should be 1:1 (For example, 800 x 800) and preferably not have any UI elements visible. Also please remember to add categories for any images uploaded, you can go to Preferences > Gadgets and activate HotCat to make it easier. --Talyyn (talk) 00:43, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- How would I get a 1:1 screenshot? This is the first pic I've uploaded that shows any UI, I believe. I've uploaded numerous other pics. Might be my first NPC. He wouldn't stand up when I talked to him, so it was gonna be a terrible photo either way. Solomon1972 (talk) 03:39, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
POIs[edit]
Hi Solomon. I've undone your edits to Online:Quest Hubs as there seems to be a misunderstanding over the purpose of that page.
For example, Skyreach Hold is listed because it has an Objective, i.e. a line of text which appears when you hover over the location, and differs based on whether the quest is started vs completed. Riverwatch is not listed, because it has no such Objective; it is marked as completed simply by visiting the location.
Any POI that has a quest-related Objective goes on Online:Quest Hubs. Everything else goes on Online:Explorable Locations. These are categories we as a wiki invented and they do not align with what the game defines as POIs. If you want to make a POI place list, feel free, but it is not a very useful distinction for the wiki and is not how we have chosen to self-organise. —Legoless (talk) 15:35, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
Proverbs[edit]
I think the documentation of proverbs is a fine idea, but maybe on a separate page ultimately. For now, feel free to keep adding them! --AKB Talk Cont Mail 20:37, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
